Door Prize and Rare Gems Highlight Trinity Episcopal Church Used Book Sale

PARKERSBURG — Book lovers across the Mid-Ohio Valley will once again gather for the annual Trinity Episcopal Church Used Book Sale, running Wednesday through Saturday at Trinity Hall on Juliana Street. This year’s event offers something extra special: a door prize and a larger selection of collectible books.

The featured door prize is “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire—the novel that inspired the 2024 film Wicked: Part 1 and its upcoming sequel, Wicked: For Good, scheduled for release on November 21. Entry into the drawing is free for all visitors, with one entry allowed per person. The winning name will be drawn at noon on Saturday, once the sale concludes.

A Tradition With a Twist

In its 75-year history, this is only the second time the church’s book sale has included a door prize, making it a unique opportunity for attendees. The sale hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Beyond bargains, the event serves a greater purpose. Funds raised will go toward church and community outreach programs, including food assistance, scholarships for the choir, and local child advocacy initiatives.

Treasures in the “Gems” Section

Shoppers can explore thousands of books spanning every genre, but the real highlight is the expanded “gems” section—a curated collection of rare and unique volumes. This year’s offerings include:

  • More than 100 books with stunning photography, from fine art to travel destinations.

  • West Virginia history books and yearbooks.

  • Out-of-print novels, religious texts, and literary classics.

  • Hardcover pictorials and pre-1940 collectible editions.

  • Vintage childhood favorites from 1900–1950.

Volunteer Donna Coleman, who helps manage the section, explained that the team carefully researched the rarity and value of these books, then priced them below market rates to make them more accessible to local readers.

A Community Event for All

The Trinity Episcopal Church Used Book Sale is more than just a place to find a great read—it’s a community tradition that connects residents with literature while giving back to local causes.

Whether you’re hunting for a classic novel, a coffee table showpiece, or hoping to win the special door prize, this year’s sale promises something for everyone.
