Beijing, October 1, 2025 — World No. 2 Jannik Sinner showcased his dominance on the hard courts of Beijing, defeating American teenager Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 to win the China Open for the second time in his career.
The 24-year-old Italian, who also won the tournament in 2023 by beating Daniil Medvedev, now holds 21 career titles. With this victory, he joins an elite group—only Novak Djokovic (6) and Rafael Nadal (2) have lifted the China Open trophy more than once.
A Commanding Performance
Sinner wasted no time stamping his authority, breaking Tien’s serve early in the first set and never looking back. He sealed the match in just over an hour, firing 10 aces and maintaining control throughout.
Though Tien, ranked No. 52, showed glimpses of his potential, he was unable to seriously challenge the Italian in what was his first ATP final. A win would have made him the lowest-ranked champion in the tournament’s history and the second-youngest American ATP champion since Andy Roddick in 2002.
Rivalries and Rankings
Sinner’s record in Beijing remains nearly flawless, with his only loss on the Diamond Court coming against Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s final. While Alcaraz skipped this year’s tournament to play—and win—the Japan Open, he also withdrew from the Shanghai Masters due to injury.
That development opens the door for Sinner to potentially reclaim the world No. 1 ranking before the end of the season. The Italian already boasts major victories this year at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, making 2025 one of the strongest seasons of his career.
Looking Ahead
As the top seed heading into the Shanghai Masters, Sinner will look to build on his Beijing triumph and possibly close out the year as the best player in the world.
For now, his emphatic win over Learner Tien underscores his growing legacy as one of the dominant forces in modern men’s tennis.
